Achieving one’s potential, having a quality working life, and keeping good physical and mental health might improve one’s working life. Work-life balance is essential (Kelliher et al., 2019). Long work hours can cause stressors that impair one’s physical and mental health, including anxiety, depression, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease (Wong et al., 2019). HR must establish good working circumstances to boost productivity and employee satisfaction (Grote & Guest 2017). The CIPD’s good work index assessment highlights the following seven elements as essential to a quality working life.

Pay and Benefits- Employees should be paid fairly and have access to opportunities to increase their earnings through incentives and rewards based on their productivity (CIPD, 2022).

Employment Contracts- Due to underemployment and short contracts, employees experience uncertainty. Organisations should consider providing its employees with solid and long-term contracts in order to increase their focus and commitment to their work.

Work-life Balance- Workloads should take this into account to ensure that employees may retain their personal life when they’re not working and prevent work from invading their homes.

Job Design and Nature of Work- Balanced workloads, autonomy, and reduced job complexity will create an accommodating and productive workplace where employees thrive.

Relationships at Work- A supportive environment that fosters fruitful interactions at work has an impact on productive teamwork, job satisfaction, and motivation at work.

Employee Voice- To improve employees’ working circumstances, it is a good idea to provide them with opportunities and platforms to communicate their opinions or grievances.

Health and Well-being- Because physical and mental health are essential for employment, companies should implement effective health and wellbeing policies.
